 SEASON’S GREETINGS - ALLERGY SEASON, THAT IS!
Winter is over (almost!) and if you’re like us, you’ve been opening up your windows to let the staleness out and let the sunshine in. From November to February, we’ve been tucked inside our homes and safe from the icy cold outside, but sharing our quarters with allergens like dust, fabric fiber, bacteria, dust mites, animal dander and cockroach droppings. All of these irritants are “worse in winter when there is less ventilation,” says Harold S. Nelson, M.D., an allergist at National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
So it’s a wonderful feeling to throw open the windows and invite the fresh air in. Unfortunately, along with putting out the welcome mat for fresh air, we’re also giving outdoor allergens an invitation to drop in for a visit.
