How to Replace a belt on a Riccar vacuum & work less!

“I am so S M R T!”- Homer Simpson

Well my cartoon friend, not only am I – S M R T ER, but I also look better in tighty whites! Don’t worry I spare you from the actual image and let you ponder that mental image…

Here’s why I claim to be smarter- there’s an old saying that goes, “a man who works a hundred years his hardest each day will never be old or broke”. Well I’ve got my own saying, “a man who appears to work and perfects slacking, will never grow tired of working his job!” – Justin.

With that in mind, let me introduce you to a kid who is in the world of vacuums… a celebrity. As a self proclaimed vacuum celebrity, he is the Matt Damon to my Brad Pittness in the vacuum world (except Brad has a 6 pack and I have a keg as a belly). Anyhow, Kyle Krichbaum has appeared on Jay Leno, The History channel and many more shows and television stations, but now he’s crossed over onto something even BIGGER… The GoVacuum Youtube Channel!

So what does a full time slacker do? He gets Kyle “The Vacuum Kid” Krichbaum to do his Youtube video for him! That’s right, Kyle is now creating how to & vacuum repair videos for GoVacuum.com! Thus enabling me to do what I do best… sleep!

So here’s Kyles first vacuum repair video for a Riccar 8905 vacuum cleaner. Expect to see more videos by Kyle and I’m even trying to pawn this blogging thing over to him, so this whole “work” thing won’t bother me during weekdays!

SEE IMAGES BELOW DIRECTIONS

1. Gather your materials. All you’ll need is an ordinary Phillips Head Screwdriver and a replacement belt. The belt part number for the Riccar 8905 is ricc113, and you can get one at a great low price at GoVacuum.com.

2. Turn the vacuum over with the front against the floor. You should be able to see the brusher bar in this position.

3. Locate the two small screws that hold the bottom plate of the vacuum in place. Once you’ve found them, use your screwdriver to remove them by turning the tool to the left.

4. Remove the plate.

5. You can locate the belt on its track on the left-hand side of the vacuum. There is a black door that partially obstructs your view of the belt. Grasp the door and swing it upwards to reveal the entire part.

6. Reach into the back of the vacuum and remove the belt from the motor pulley.

7. Remove the silver divider that is on the left-hand side of the brush roll. Put this aside somewhere safe, as you will need to reinstall it later.

8. Grasp the brush roller and pull it out of the vacuum.

9. Although it’s not mandatory, you can use this time as an opportunity to clean the area beneath the brush roller. Just use a damp cloth to wipe down the entire area.

10. Place one end of the new belt around the motor pulley at the back of the vacuum.

11. Put the brush roll through the belt. You’ll want the belt to rest inside of the black track on the left-hand side of the brush roll.

12. Get behind the vacuum and grasp the brush roll. Put equal pressure on both ends and push it back into place. You will feel resistance from the belt, but don’t worry–this is normal. It does not mean the belt will break.

13. Return to the front of the vacuum and replace the metal divider.

14. Close the black door that covers the belt.

15. Put the pla
te back in place on the vacuum. Be sure to tuck the blue pieces inside. They should not be visible from the outside of the vacuum.

16. Use your screwdriver to tighten the screws, turning the tool to the right.

17. Celebrate! Your Riccar 8905 has a brand new belt. Give yourself a pat on the back and vacuum something!

NOTE: This video, images and guide is for the Riccar 8900 series without the clutch AKA floor/Rug Selector. If you have a Riccar model with the clutch such as the 8955 or 8850, you need to also connect the clutch bar and make sure your roller tabs are placed in the roller housing correctly.

The auction, starts at 1:11am PST on Cyber Monday November 26, 2012, and will run for 10 days. Ten percent of the proceeds will be going to the American Red Cross. The Ebay auction id will be 271108184992.

Recycling Event and Beyond

GoVacuum.com and Forever Green Recycling just held their first ever “Recycle and Save Event” this past Saturday, October 28th. The response from the community was overwhelming! With such a positive turnout, I’m sure this event will become an annual thing.

(might be a slight exaggeration of turnout for our recycling event)

It doesn’t stop at just one event. The fusion of teamwork from GoVacuum.com and Forever Green Recycling will be offering recycling services daily.

Just like the slogan, “only you can prevent forest fires,” well only YOU can prevent needless landfill consumption of broken, no longer wanted or needed vacuum cleaners.

The buzz of our recycling effort is gaining momentum within the online community as well. With Recyclescene.com, Earthtechling.com, and Earth911.com leading the charge in getting the message out and informing people that there are positive, worthwhile alternatives for the disposal of vacuum cleaners.

So if you are local within the DC, Maryland, Northern Virginia area – please feel free to drop by our Vacuums Unlimited (GoVacuum) headquarters which is located at 14500 Lee Road Chantilly, VA 20151.

If you are not local but still want to take advantage of this wonderful program, please visit Vac-Recycle.com. Upon visiting the site, we will walk you through step by step from what your vacuum is worth to having a tree being planted in an endangered rain forest in your honor and everything in between.

Your recycling efforts do not have to stop at just vacuums. Forever Green Recycling specializes in the recycling of unwanted or no longer needed electronics. Whether you are bogged down with old gyroscopes, silicon wafers, copper anodes, and oscilloscopes or more common items like radar and sonar equipment – Forever Green Recycling has your recycling needs covered.

For a complete list of electronics Forever Green Recycling accepts, click here.

Please remember that a little effort can make a huge impact. Use these avenues to make a difference now and many years into the future.

Treasure Troving For Lost Items With Your Vacuum

Do you know that feeling you get when you’ve lost an earring or your favorite piece in Monopoly?  Are you always losing because you can’t find that gosh darn car or the cannon?   I mean seriously, everyone knows those are the best pieces!  Well you can buy another Monopoly game and waste all those monopoly dollars, or you can pass go, collect $200 and try a nifty little method I like to call, “treasure troving,” also known as, “Putting a stocking on the end of a vacuum to find a small item under your dresser.”

You are never going to believe how simple it is.  All you need is a vacuum and a stocking or if you’re a dude who owns dress socks, those will work too.  Now if you’re a dude and you have stocking’s… more power to ya’.  Just take the end of your vacuum hose, place a stocking over it – creating a filter-like effect, and take your vacuum on a treasure trove hunt.  You’ll find all the stuff you never really noticed was lost but always gave you the feeling of, “dang something is missing in my life.”

Who needs a metal detector, I mean seriously?!?  Have you ever seen a robber out at the park trying to crack a safe?  There are way more valuable items just laying around lost in your bedroom.  There is no better feeling than pulling your wedding ring out of the kitchen sink or shutting up your stupid brother in law in a friendly game of monopoly, Boooyaw!  So give it a try and don’t forget to refer to GoVacuum.com for all of your vacuum needs.

Quality ZVac! No its not a German guy saying “the vac.”

GoVacuum.com is launching its own brand, ZVac!

These are not just your everyday vacuum bags and filters either!  GoVacuum has designed and engineered the ZVac products to be mostly biodegradable and recyclable, made with earth-friendly materials to have the least amount of negative impact on the environment.

ZVac Discount Vacuum Cleaner Filters

Now I know what you’re thinking,

“Is GoVacuum trying to single handedly stop global warming?”

That’s so kind of you by the way, but no.

We do want to do our part though to help reduce, not just other people’s carbon footprint with our Vac-Recycle.com program, but reduce our own footprint by creating our own brand of vacuum bags and filters.

We didn’t stop there!!

ZVac having a tree planted for every 500 filters and bags manufactured

For every 500 vacuum bags and filters manufactured, we had a tree planted in the endangered Atlantic Forest of Brazil, and will continue to do so.

[wait for applause to end]

I know this is impressive and most of you reading this are singing GoVacuum’s praises, but some might be saying, “biodegradable, earth-friendly, the quality must be crap.”

We assure you, far from it!  We painstakingly and rigorously ensured that each bag and filter is manufactured to the exact OEM specifications of quality, size, and installation.

HERE IS THE BEST PART OF ALL!!

The ZVac brand of high quality and earth friendly products are a fraction of OEM and other popular Generic Companies retail prices.

So let me break this down for you because I’m sure I’m reaching the 96 second (on average) attention span for blog reading, or in case you skipped to the end:

ZVac brand, high quality, perfect fitting, earth-friendly, bags and filters at cheaper prices than anyone else, period!

Vacuum info on the Go?!? How appropriate for a website called GoVacuum.com

GoVacuum.com has just introduced a new Android App, which you can access and download in the Google Play market.

We wanted to ensure that when you’re standing in line waiting for your sandwich to be made, why not open up the GoVacuum app and watch this video where I play Santa.

Or, if you’re like me and just had a baby, there is even a Govacuum “vacuuming white noise” video that you can play at that wonderful hour of 4am, your wife has mistakenly had pizza as her last meal (tomatoes don’t make babies happy), proceeded to breastfeed – and now you’re pulling out all stops to try to soothe that baby to sleep.  Our app will be your shrine if that happens!

The new GoVacuum.com Android App. allows access to huge savings!!!!

Just go under the coupon section to view the different coupon codes available to be used on our GoVacuum.com website.

After saving big on our GoVacuum.com website, and/or exploring our huge library of comparison videos, reviews, how to’s, and well, holiday videos; guess what?  You can be even more saturated with vacuum info and updates by viewing our tweets via the twitter tab or our Facebook deals via the more tab.

There is no end to how knowledgeable you will become about vacuums after downloading this FREE app from the Google Play Store on your phone or tablet.  It may even seem silly now but when that “piece of crap” vacuum you bought from your local box store dies on you after the 3rd time of you buying a new one, a rush of thankfulness will come over you, an inner peace if you will, knowing now you’re equipped with the knowledge and savings to choose the right vacuum the next time around.

Happy Birthday To Brian, CJ & Me!

I get a text yesterday instructing me head into the offices of the leading Bissell vacuum belts website – GoVacuum.com. This was the second day in a row I was to go there to do, like real work… just what I want to do… WORK!

Once I got out of bed and hit the road, I felt pretty good! Here it was just 12:41pm and I was already awake! Shortly thereafter I got to the vacuum warehouse office and I felt even better! I was presently surprised- my fellow Libra co-workers Brian and CJ had Birthdays within the last few days and I just celebrated mine this past week, so the other misfits at GoVacuum decided to throw us a 3 for all Birthday celebration!

There was cheesecake, Chinese food and even a synthesized birthday music playing in the background. We all danced around a little and wished Brian, CJ & myself a Happy Birthday.

Here are two of GoVacuums most important misfits. While they are both young, they already making their impact in the vacuum business. CJ is the final quality control specialist and is the misfit responsible for making sure your orders arrive correctly and in a timely manner. While Brian is a Jack of all things vacuum related, one day he is helping our Spanish speaking customers, then next he is implementing quality control inventory systems or he may just be there telling a funny joke. If it were not for these two young vacuum experts, I would have to do real work around the office. Thus, my British cap is off to you two fine lads, I look forward to working with the two of you for many years! Happy Birthday Brian & CJ!

To celebrate the Birthdays big boss man gave Brian a Bissell PowerSteamer, CJ got a really cool Bissell Little Green Machine, Earth Friendly Edition and me? I got the greatest gift of all, the rest of the day off!

Have a question about which Bissell vacuum part you need? Call us at 888-468-2210 or email me: justin@govacuum.com

Soul Searching Sabbatical… & A Hockey Game!

I’m back! Did you miss me or even notice I was gone? I’m sure you did as the last blog entry was for Mikes Birthday almost two weeks ago. The day after Mikes Birthday, I informed the big boss man I was having trouble coming up with blog ideas. It’s not hard to talk about how we sell discounted Eureka vacuum parts, but after a while the original blog ideas can be hard to find.

I asked him if I could travel the country doing “research & development” on my motorcycle. His reply, “go find inspiration Justin”, that was all the answer I needed. I kick started my 1970′s Honda CBR 750, filled the mp3 player with classic rock and I hit the road.

After about a week of research & development, he summoned me back to his office, but I was 4 days away from our vacuum store in Northern Virginia. Thus, I got back Friday evening. He asked if I found inspiration for the blog. I explained how my mind was still on the road and I can’t answer that until I returned to my office, in my three hammocks on Monday.

He said not to worry, as he had inspiration in his hands. He then gave me Washington Capitals tickets for myself and our webmaster. Whoa! Who does he think he is? I just worked for 10 days straight! Now, he wanted me working on a Saturday night? Yet, since I’m a team player and obviously a hard worker, I kept mum and agreed to go.

It turns out I had a blast! It was the opening game of the season and went into overtime, but the Caps pulled out the win! Plus, I even got to mingle with Elliot Segal, morning show host of The Elliot In The Morning Radio Show, Washington DC’s most popular morning radio show and as a listener of over 10 years, it was a true honor to meet him.

Yes, the caps game was the inspiration I needed for the blog. Now the creative juices are flowing and I still have a job as the GoVacuum blogger. If you don’t see a blog entry for a few days, don’t worry… I’m just in need of a few days off from working so hard. ;)

Do you have an inspirational story for the hardest working man in the vacuum business? Email it to me: justin@govacuum.com
