Clean Energy Act: A Pathway to the New Workforce

The latest good news from Washington DC is that the historic climate and energy bill, otherwise known as the American Clean Energy and Security Act (ACESA) has passed the first important stages.

Coming out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, the bill signifies the growing trend in the United States towards clean energy. Led by Chairmen Ed Markey and Henry Waxmen, the bill now will go to the House and Senate to strengthen its import by assuring that the American workforce and local communities will benefit to the maximum.

Local leaders all over the country are turning their attention to the pressing need for clean energy. Governor Chris Gregoire has signed a landmark bill introducing Green jobs as part of Washington State law with the guidance of the environmental group, Green For All. His legislation has now set a precedent for other leaders to follow suit.

As officials start to partner with green organizations, government mandates are beginning to include eco-friendly standards for citizens who are also becoming more aware of the need for change. Now more people need to reach out to their local government leaders by asking for stronger Green laws for low-income Americans through strengthening the American Clean Energy and Security Act. By investing in green-collar labor, the government will help to provide the necessary eco-friendly jobs to people in need while contributing to the forward-moving paradigm that will ultimately supersede old methods. By using the Washington State model, we can help congress define a new pathway to a conscious workforce engaged in jobs reflecting our commitment to the environment.
